Uptown Sedona, in the northeast area above Oak Creek, comprises the original town of Sedona at the mouth of Oak Creek Canyon and further south. The “main drag” along Hwy 89A, studded with shops, restaurants, hotels, art galleries, Pink Jeep Tours, the Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center, and the venerable Sedona Arts Center, is the focal point of tourist activity in the area. It’s where the tour buses stop. Congested as it often is, particularly on weekends, with pedestrians and traffic, it tends to be avoided by Sedona residents.
But, once you get away from the hubbub of the 89A corridor, the residential areas are actually quiet and frequently have terrific views, and are a desirable location to find homes for sale in Sedona AZ. Jordan Park, for example, is a very upscale development bordering the National Forest. The older and less expensive Lazy Bear Estates offers hilly terrain and some of the best views in town.
For the purposes of searching for homes for sale in Sedona AZ, if you proceed south on Hwy 89A through the “Y” Roundabout (the intersection of Hwys 89A and 179), the areas along Hwy 179, Brewer Road, Rolling Hills Estates, off Hwy 89A are also labeled “Uptown” (Area 41) by the Sedona Multiple Listing Service. Much of this section of Sedona is close to Oak Creek and you’ll see plenty of green, giant sycamore trees, and swimming holes. The Palisades neighborhood at the end of Brewer Road is particularly scenic, upscale, and borders the National Forest. Sedona real estate that borders the National Forest is especially prized for the sake of privacy, forest access, and scenery. But, it does kick the price up.
