Oak Creek Canyon is situated north of Uptown Sedona and is one of the most beautiful drives in the nation. Homes in the Canyon are an eclectic mix of mobile homes, cottages, rustic cabins as well as million dollar luxury estates. It’s also a primary route from Sedona to Flagstaff – roughly 27 miles. Most Sedonans revere the Canyon for it’s cool, verdant hiking trails, especially the West Fork of Oak Creek Trail, aka, “The Call of the Canyon.”
You may have heard news accounts of the recent (May 2014) “Slide” (after Slide Rock State Park) forest fire about five miles north of Sedona in Oak Creek Canyon and the National Forest to the west. A massive fire-fighting effort brought the blaze under control in little over a week and there were no injuries and no damage to homes or businesses. The canyon walls on the west side were burned extensively, but most of the Canyon is as green as ever and businesses are open once more.
There are not a lot of homes in the Canyon and with their proximity to Oak Creek, they tend to be a bit pricier compared with the rest of the Sedona real estate offerings.
For the sake of Sedona real estate searches, this is Sedona MLS Area 40.
